Discover Arles, France with
Gigia Kolouch and Cynthia Morris through food, art and writing
Join creative adventurers Cynthia Morris and Gigia Kolouch for a unique and inspiring visit to Arles, France. Drawing, painting, cooking and writing allow you to experience this sensual region in an intimate way. On this tour, visit local artisans and use your senses to create your own guidebook. Daily excursions and art instruction immerse you in the tastes, colors and culture of Provence.
Arles is located in the heart of Provence, famous for its sunny climate, lavender, olives and honey. Founded by the Romans (visit the surviving amphitheater), it became an important pilgrimage stop, as well as the inspiration for painters as diverse as such as Van Gogh, Gaugin and Picasso.
Novice artists as well as those more experienced will be invigorated by this unique experience of art and place. Meet new friends who share your enthusiasm for art and food. Spend your days eating, drawing, writing and cooking. Conversations and exploring together provide a sense of community. Free time allows for individual excursions in Arles and reflective time to create.
Learn from local food artisans, professional chef and cooking instructor Erick Vedel and host Madeleine Vedel. Cynthia and Gigia share their knowledge of art, their passion for France and their inviting teaching styles to create a memorable journey for you.
All meals, including continental breakfasts, picnics en pleine air, lunches at local artisans, cooking classes and meals at traditional Provençal restaurants.

Cynthia Morris and Gigia Kolouch both have degrees in French, have lived in France and have traveled extensively throughout Europe. A love of food and teaching informs their ten year collaboration.

Price is per person, based on occupancy in a shared double or triple room. Single occupancy is available at a neighboring hotel for an additional charge.

A Journey of the Senses
Join creative adventurers Cynthia Morris and Gigia Kolouch for a unique and inspiring visit to Sonoma County, California. Drawing, painting, cooking and writing allow you to experience this sensual region in an intimate way. On this tour, visit local artisans and use your senses to create your own guidebook. Daily excursions and art instruction immerse you in the tastes, colors and culture of northern California.
Just 35 miles north of San Francisco, you will find a wild and dramatic Pacific coastline, the winding Russian River, vineyards, majestic old growth redwoods, historic towns, and some of the best food in the world.
The beauty of the area has attracted artists and craftsman colonies, rejuvenating spas and some of the finest dining experiences in the United States. Hills covered in cows and woolly sheep, orchards and gardens where the freshest, often organic, produce is grown for your dinner table and farms of every variety are all to be discovered in this wondrous country. Sonoma County is the original home of wine production in northern California and still the largest producer of quality wine. Its wine grape appellations are also a handy way for travelers to sample the distinctive flavors of the county's diverse regions.
The Tour Includes

A Journey of the Senses - Walking Tours
Discover what it is like to experience the world through the eyes of an artist. Take a journey of the senses and absorb familiar neighborhoods in new ways. Develop your eye for detail and learn how to take in more through all of your senses. When you are more attuned to your environment, you get more out of life. During the walking tour, you will do word sketching and gesture sketching to capture the nuances of architecture, landscaping and the natural world. You will visit the neighborhood farmer’s market to use the abundance of color and texture to inspire your work. End the journey in a café to share impressions and ideas about how to keep the senses alive.
Wear walking shoes and bring a notebook, permanent pen, pencils, sun protection and a water bottle.

$5 materials fee payable in class for paint sets.
